This picture resonates with how I define the complexity of Social studies because it has many different perspectives.
Create a definition of social studies:
- The relationship between people and the world how similar each one of us despite the diversity
- The complex which can be challenging to define with a specific definition
- From time immemorial to the present, the relationships between living and non-living things
Why is teaching Social Studies a complex task?
- There is so much – psyc/anthro/history/politics
- So many different theories (what is real/really happened vs what is a theory)
- White settler how to be authentic and respectful
- History is up until today – the now is important too – current history
- Focus on the past and dates and not WHY these are important
- Teach empathy – teach how to see from various perspectives
My week 1 reflection resonates with how I define social studies and its complexity.
